England still just about in Ashes fight

A feisty end to the day sees England just about still in the second Ashes test.

Earlier, England took a leaf out of the tourists’ book as they peppered them with short-pitched bowling.

It worked as Australia were skittled for 279.

The bizarre spectacle of Nathan Lyon limping out at number eleven and scoring a loudly-cheered boundary was a highlight.

England were soon in trouble as they chased 371.

Zak Crawley feathered behind down the leg side and Ollie Pope soon followed.

Fiery spells from Mitchell Starc and Aussie skipper Pat Cummins were troubling the hosts.

Joe Root and Harry Brook were quickly back in the pavilion as they slumped to 45/4.

Ben Duckett (50) survived a controversial catch that was adjudged to have been spilled and with skipper Ben Stokes (29) will start day 5 unbeaten, with England 114/4.
